Blended braking comes to Tesla vehicles.

Blended braking comes to Tesla vehicles.

A long sought after feature - blended braking - is coming to Model 3 and Model Y.

Starting with the 2022.16.0.2 update, your Tesla will now be able to use friction braking when regen isn't available (either due to the SOC or temperature).

This change only appears to be coming to the non-LFP cars as the LFP cars can utilitise regen braking even at 100% due to an extra reserve at that SOC.

Blended braking has been a long requested feature and will aid newer Tesla owners who may not be use to having to use the brake pedal when at 100%. Tesla only recently updated the message on the vehicle to make it sound less aggressive (but more confusing).

The release notes state: "Regenerative Braking, Your vehicle can now automatically apply regular brakes for consistent deceleration when regenerative braking is limited due to battery temperature or state of charge. To enable, tap Controls > Pedals & Steering > Apply Brakes When Regenerative Braking Is Limited."
