Tesla potentially removing Live Sentry View in Germany due to regulations

The useful security feature was enabled in Canada and Europe with the 2021 Christmas Update but many feared it may not comply with some data protection regulations.

We all know the EU has its fair share of limiting regulations (after all, Navigate-on-Autopilot was forcibly removed from all vehicles in Europe after German regulators found it to be in violation of UNECE Regulation 79 โ€“ even though it has been available for two years). The man himself, Elon Musk, said during an event at the start of the year that everything in Europe is โ€œillegal by defaultโ€ - which might be the cause of this potential removal.

Sentry Mode was originally launched in 2019 and has proved an extremely useful tool in helping combat thefts and vandalism but the feature has always been in-car only. That was until update 2021.36.8 released two years later which brought Live Sentry View to the US on applicable vehicles (Refresh S, 3, Refresh X and Y).

With update 2021.44.25.2 however, that all changed. Better known as the Holiday Update (2021) - Live Sentry Mode expanded to several new countries including Germany and the UK.

Spotted by Tesla enthusiast @tesla_adri, it appears that Tesla has updated the car configurator yesterday to remove the "Live Sentry View" text indicating that it may be disabled on new vehicles. Thankfully we havenโ€™t heard anything about the feature being removed retroactively by an OTA software update.
